Work at Height
This continues to be the number 1 priority for HSE.
We recently dealt with the aftermath of one tragic fall through a fragile roof.
We continue to find damaged and otherwise unsuitable ladders and stepladders in the workplace:
A few essential rules for safe work at height:
- provide the right equipment – all laddes and stepladders used at work should now be Industrial Class 1 (blue);
- Make sure that you have an inventory of all access equipment – ladders etc – and check them periodically;
- Any work undertaken from a ladder must be subjected to prior risk assessment;
- Any work on or near fragile roofs must be subjected to a method statement;
- You must manage the work of any contractors and intervene if they fail to work safely.
Workplace Transport
This continues to be number 2 priority for HSE,
We are currently helping a number of clients to resolve issues that do not comply with requirements.
The law requires in particular that you must:
- Organise traffic movements safely;
- Pay special regard to pedestrians – workers or visitors to your site;
- Pay special regard to any loading or unloading activities;
- Either prevent reversing on site or otherwise ensure it is properly controlled or supervised;
- As far as possible, prevent persons climbing onto vehicles and PROHIBIT persons climbing onto loads (including visiting drivers);
