Cornwall Council

Views sought on countywide parking order

Fri 18th Dec

Members of the public in Cornwall are being invited to give their views on proposed changes to parking arrangements in the county as part of a comprehensive consultation exercise being staged by Cornwall Council over the next four weeks.

Following the recommendations of the Cabinet Parking Advisory Panel on 1 December, the Council is consulting members of the public on a new countywide parking order. This order brings together the parking orders from the former District Councils.

Among the changes in the new order are:

  • an average 5% increase in parking charges in Cornwall.
  • a consistent policy in respect to charging Blue Badge holders (they will be charged in all car parks unless. Off street parking for disabled badge holders should only be free if the vehicle displays a tax disc marked NIL or Disabled; or the vehicle parked is an especially adapted vehicle).
  • to discontinue the residents’ discount cards (formally available in Restormel and Caradon).
  • the introduction of regulations to effectively enforce all the public car parks operated by the Council.
  • the addition of some car parks and the removal of others.

“We want to work with members of the public in Cornwall to develop parking policies which are fair and consistent across the whole county” said Andrew Wallis, Chair of the Parking Policy Advisory Panel. “To do this we need local people to contact us to give us their views so we can make an informed decision”.

“Anyone who wants to make their views known can either contact me on awallis@cornwall.gov.uk or contact the Council using the methods below”.

The consultation exercise closes on 13 January 2010.

The parking order can be viewed on the Consultation Finder or at any of the Council’s one stop shops.
