Thu 17th Dec
I am writing to invite you to the Newquay Safe, ‘Tourism and Residents Together’ Partnership Event (NewSTART) to be held on the 14th January 2010.
By way of background, the Newquay and St Columb Community Network has been asked by Newquay Safe ( a multi agency task force set up following the events of last season) to deliver this event in Newquay.
The day will bring together groups of people including residents associations, local businesses including those engaged in tourism, the police, Newquay Town Council, Cornwall Council and others to seek long term solutions to the growth in anti social behaviour, alcohol related incidents and hopefully avert future tragedies that may be related to excessive alcohol consumption, such as cliff falls. In addition, issues relating to the visual impact of the town are often raised, for example the number of derelict sites and the look and feel of the town centre. As you may be aware Cornwall Council and partners including the police and others have been working closely together over recent months to address many of the issues and concerns that have been raised by residents. However there is a wider view that Newquay needs to decide what kind of tourism it promotes and encourages in the future and particularly how this impacts on the lives of local communities.
The event will allow all these people to start a process of developing a longer term strategy for Newquay, specifically:
‘Establish how the town can promote and develop the significant and important Newquay tourism economy whilst respecting and improving the quality of life for local people who live and work in the area’.
This work will feed directly into the Newquay Town and Parish Plan, essentially a long term development plan produced by the local communities in the area that will identify local community issues including quality of life.
The event is a first step in formulating specific actions to overcome these issues and your views and input on the day will be invaluable. We hope that you will be able to attend and contribute.
I have attached an agenda and invitation.
If you know of other people who you think should be invited please forward this invite to them or contact us.
We would be very grateful if you could RSVP by the 6th January in order that we can monitor the total number of people wishing to take part.
Please note that numbers will be strictly limited

We look forward to hearing from you
